Kalamazoo Country Day School

History of KCDS

Formerly Kalamazoo Academy, Kalamazoo Country Day School was founded in 1979 by a group of families who saw the need for a co-ed, independent, and non-profit school in the Kalamazoo area. Originally located in Comstock, we moved in 1983 to our current location, at 4221 East Milham Road in Portage, Michigan.

We are grateful our founders had the foresight to recognize the vital need for an independent school in our community. We are proud of our history and our evolution in becoming the area’s premier independent school with a focus on personalized learning and academic success.

As we approach our 45th anniversary at Kalamazoo Country Day School, we recognize that our success and longevity is built on the ongoing collaboration of our families, staff, alumni, and friends, all working toward the shared goal of creating a community of lifelong learners. We are excited to expand our story in the future.
