Welcome to the Kalamazoo Country Day School website. Whether you are a parent looking for that perfect first school for your preschooler or a truly innovative middle school for your rising 5th grader, KCDS is a great place to start!
“EXPLORE, EXPAND, EXCEL”
Kalamazoo Country Day School is guided by our mission. Please read it carefully because it is the ground work for all that we do.
Kalamazoo Country Day School, an independent school, provides a supportive, challenging, and creative academic environment for talented and motivated students to prepare them for lifelong achievement.
An Independent School
KCDS was founded 37 years ago to celebrate and inspire learning during the first chapter in a student’s school career. As an independent day school, KCDS can be at the forefront of educational thought, make decisions that are best for each student, and look to a rich history to help inform our decisions.
Supportive, Challenging and Creative
Our curriculum encourages creativity, problem solving, and independent thought through projects and portfolio learning. At KCDS, students study math, science, and the humanities. They also experience engineering, computer science, the Spanish language, and visual and performing arts.
Kalamazoo Country Day School graduates eighth graders full of energy, optimism, opinions, and courage. As the 8th grade class graduates and goes off to both our local public and private high schools, we often hear “we can pick your students out in the room, they have a voice and aren’t afraid to use it.” We know that they carry their KCDS experience proudly.
It is my pleasure and privilege to represent the KCDS community and to lead it forward, and I look forward to sharing my vision for the school’s future with you. I extend a warm invitation to you to visit our campus both virtually and in person, and I look forward to the opportunity to welcome you during a weekday tour.
Brian C. Steele,
Interim Head of Kalamazoo Country Day School
