About Kalamazoo Country Day School
In 1979, a group of Kalamazoo area families, interested in providing a quality education for their children, joined to create a school where each child is viewed as having great academic potential. This community became a special place for children where students, parents and teachers are mutually supportive, working and learning together.
An enriched, challenging curriculum promotes intellectual, creative, social and physical development. Kalamazoo Country Day School graduates are well prepared for their secondary education in academics and the arts. They routinely take advanced level math and science classes in high schools and place into honors English courses and advanced foreign language classes, and many of our graduates qualify for the KAMSC program.
Kalamazoo Country Day School is a non-profit, non-sectarian, independent school accredited by the Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS) and a member of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS).
Kalamazoo Country Day School, an Independent School, provides a supportive, challenging and creative academic environment for talented and motivated students to prepare them for lifelong achievement.

At Kalamazoo Country Day, we are defined by our mission and we live it every day. Supportive defines preschool teachers who are nurturing and caring with our youngest students; at the core of the KCDS preschool are warm and welcoming classrooms where the children feel valued and safe. In the older classrooms it is reflected by the involvement of the teachers in their student’s lives; differentiated learning takes place in every classroom to ensure that each student reaches their full potential. Challenging is reflected in a preschool curriculum which focuses on the essential skills for kindergarten readiness; it is intellectually challenging and presented through creative, small group activities. Our small class size allows for differentiated learning so every student reaches their full potential. It is also a STEM school with a strong math and science program. You will find a 1:1 tablet and laptop program for kindergarten through eighth grade students, and computer science will be taught in the middle school. Creative speaks to more than music and art; free and imaginative play is encouraged daily as our youngest students explore the room and their interests. All KCDS students learn to take chances and understand that there is more than one way to solve a problem. It is important for our students to be active participants in their learning.
The core values of Country Day, respect, responsibility, integrity and caring, are modeled and reinforced daily. KCDS is a community where all students work together and families are encouraged to be present and involved. Everyone at Country Day has a buddy; our buddy program offers a unique opportunity for our younger students to interact with the older ones a couple times a month for special activities.
